As a local vicar, being on the Governing body of a Church School comes with the job, and it’s a role I’ve come to enjoy over the years. I have served as a Governor for the Ark Federation, and previously Beer School, since 2007, and have six years experience as a Governor prior to that. Being a Governor is only part of my role with the Federation and, together with others from local churches, I seek to support the schools pastorally and through involvement in collective worship.

I have two children of my own who are now both at Secondary School and, to their relief, no longer have to sit through dad’s assemblies. Prior to becoming a vicar I worked in scientific research and also did a stint with BBC local radio.

I was pleased to join the governing body in early 2017 as a foundation governor.

I moved to Beer in 2013 with my wife and our 2 children, both of whom are at Beer Primary.

I’m a management accountant by trade, and my background is primarily property and local government.

My initial career was in Medical Pathology. However, the main focus of my work life has been largely in the field of education, involved in Senior Management in a primary school in Penarth, South Wales.  l obtained my Degree in Education from the University of Wales in 1985. I have taught pupils across the Primary sector, however mainly focusing on teaching Year 6. I was involved in the transition process between Primary and Secondary school, liaising with Secondary feeder schools.

I have served on a number of committees to promote, amongst other things, the development of Mathematics in the Primary Curriculum. I was responsible for students placed with us from the University, in addition I was responsible for Looked After Children in our care.

We relocated from South Wales to the New Forest where I continued teaching on a supply basis. We have lived here since 2014.

Rob Evans

Role:  Member of Teaching and Learning Committee.

Category:  Staff Governor.

Term of Office:  21.06.17 – 21

I have been teaching for 24 years and, although the job has changed in many ways during that time, I still enjoy the challenge and excitement of being in the classroom.

I have been at Beer for three years now having previously taught in schools in Exeter and Exmouth. During that time, I have taken on many different roles and I am currently developing my career as Head of School, Teacher Governor and Class 4 teacher.

I have three grown-up sons who are now either at university or in the world of work and, seeing their progress into adulthood makes me more determined to play my part in equipping children to face the challenges of living and learning in the modern world.
