Gill McMenemy

Roles: Vice Chair of Governors, Lead Governor for Standards, Chair of Teaching and Learning committee, Admissions committee

Category: Foundation

Term of Office : 14.11.16 – 20

I have been involved with All Saints School since early 2009 when I was appointed to be Clerk to the Governors. I also worked in that capacity for Beer School from Spring 2013 until the two schools federated in September of that year. I resigned from the post this summer and was appointed as the Local Authority Governor from October 2014.

However, this is not my first experience of school governance as I was a Parent, and then Foundation, Governor of a local Church Primary school for ten years and was the Chairman there for five years.

I am employed part time in the Library service but have retired from administrative roles in local churches. I am a magistrate on the East and North Devon Bench sitting regularly in the Exeter court. I am also a Citizens Advice Bureau Advisor, although unfortunately I am unable to pursue this at present due to family commitments.

Jean Smith

Roles: Chair of Governors, member of Teaching and Learning committee, Admissions committee

Category: Foundation

Term of office: 14.11.16 – 20

When the Ark Federation was formed in October 2013 I was privileged and proud to be elected Chair of Governors. Prior to that I had been a Governor at Beer C of E Aided Primary School for four years and Chair for most of that time. I am a Foundation Governor nominated by St Michael’s Beer, but represent the Diocese.

I am now fully retired having had a wonderful career in education, I was a headteacher of two primary Church Aided schools and then undertook freelance work which included, Church School Inspections and managing the tutors working with teachers aspiring to become headteachers through studying for the National Primary Headteacher’s Qualification.
Retirement is busy. I enjoy being active in the community. I am secretary to St Michael’s Beer PCC and a Rotarian. I enjoy my garden, playing golf and am a keen quilter.

I am and have always been passionate about primary school education with all children reaching full potential in effective schools.

Rebecca Porter

Roles: Acting Executive Head
Category of Governor: Headteacher
Appointed by: Full Governing Body
Term of office: 1/9/15 – present

Revd. Jeremy Trew

Roles: Lead governor for Ethos, member of Teaching and Learning committee, Admissions committee

Category of Governor: Ex Officio
Term of office:

As a local vicar, being on the Governing body of a Church School comes with the job, and it’s a role I’ve come to enjoy over the years. I have served as a Governor for the Ark Federation, and previously Beer School, since 2007, and have six years experience as a Governor prior to that. Being a Governor is only part of my role with the Federation and, together with others from local churches, I seek to support the schools pastorally and through involvement in collective worship.

I have two children of my own who are now both at Secondary School and, to their relief, no longer have to sit through dad’s assemblies. Prior to becoming a vicar I worked in scientific research and also did a stint with BBC local radio.

Lesley Brown

Category : Parent Governor – All Saints

Term of Office: 16.11.16 -20

I became involved with All Saints Primary School when I started teaching there in April 2015. At the moment, I teach PPA, specialising in Music and Drama and I coordinate the school Christmas performances – which I love. I also teach Class 4 in Beer now one day a week.

I have been teaching since 2006, starting my career teaching English at secondary level and then changing to teach in primary schools when I moved to London from Essex. My family and I relocated to the West Country in 2012 – we love the pace of life and the beautiful countryside. My husband is also a teacher and I have two young daughters – one who is at All Saints and one who will be starting in September.
