Red Nose Day

We have all had a great time today to raise money for this worthy charity.  The children have made a great effort to come to school wearing red and the red noses have all sold out.  We are looking forward to raising even more money from the cake sale at the end of the day.

Yr 5/6 Tag Rugby

Last Friday all the children from Class 4 took part in a inter school tag rugby tournament at Colyton Grammar School. All Saints school entered three teams, two in the competitive tournament and one in the friendly tournament. All three of the teams played well and had some very close games with only one point between the teams at the end of some of the games. All of the children had a fantastic, fun time and demonstrated great sportsmanship during the tournament. One of our competitive teams made it into the semi-finals and so secures a place in the East Devon Tag Rugby finals in April.

World Book Day

Last Friday we celebrated World Book Day. In the morning Mr Giffard read a book, Penguin by Polly Dunbar with the whole school. Each child then wrote their own five sentence story inspired / based on the book. Writing a five sentence story is something that was accessible to all whilst also providing a suitable challenge for the older challenge. These stories were then edited, improved, rewritten etc. until the children were sure they were as close to perfection as possible. We also created some artwork to go with the stories and the children shared their stories with each other.

PE Academy @ Exeter Chiefs – Written by the students

On Tuesday 12th July some of the children that were selected for the PE Academy went on a trip to Sandy Park (Exeter Chiefs).  We had an amazing time and learnt lots of fantastic new skills.  We have also learnt how to rugby tackle!!!  We had a tour around Sandy Park; we went in the changing rooms and experienced the ice bath.  We looked around the gyms and the stadium – it was brilliant and we really enjoyed ourselves.

Glee Performance

On Tuesday we were treated to another fantastic Glee performance.  Both the children and Mrs Ryan put their all into the practices and the performance.  It always amazes me that they can pull all of that together in such a short space of time as although they practise for several weeks, when you equate it to hours, it really isn’t very long at all!  I am sure you will join me in congratulating and thanking the children and Mrs Ryan for such a brilliant performance.  I’d also like to give a special mention to Keeley who did amazingly well in her solo performance.

Big Arts Week

What a colourful and creative week we have had inspired by our theme of Africa! The children have demonstrated a fantastic range of skills and the classrooms have been a hive of activity with all of the activities that have been going on from mask making to hut building and painting to animal design, they have all participated brilliantly. We’d like to say a big thank you to all those who gave their time to support the children this week, it was greatly appreciated.

Yr 3/4 Quad Kids Athletics

On Wednesday a team of 11 keen athletes travelled to Colyton Grammar school to take part in the year 3/4 Quad Kids athletics. This is a competition where all children take part in 4 events and a cumulative team score is earned. Therefore every child’s performance is important. Our children looked smart in their kits and behaved really well. When the results were announced it was great to see the delighted surprise of the team. There were really proud of their achievements and we now look forward to the East Devon finals at The Kings School in Ottery St Mary in a few weeks.

Rockley – Wednesday 25th May

Having arrived safely, we had a short amount of time to find our rooms and eat lunch before we were on our way down to the beach for our first activity. They all expertly managed their wetsuits and were ferried out by motor boat to the Wayfarer sailing boats. Our instructors each took a group of 4 children and they very quickly gained confidence on the water, so much so that a dance routine broke out on one boat! At one point we were joined by a couple of seals which was a lovely bonus. We then had our evening meal of sweet and sour pork followed by apple crumble before heading back down to the beach for an evening of crabbing and circus skills. We caught an impressive number of crabs before releasing them back. A terrific first day was had by all.
